Kona Goal: To push hard on the bike with some energy for the run.

A few days after the Ironman North American Championship at Mont Tremblant we received a very nice email from an unexpected source. TJ Tollakson wrote to say, "I just wanted to drop you a note and let you know I used your service to profile the course at IMMT this past weekend en route to my record setting performance." Needless to say we were very flattered and excited! After chatting with TJ for a bit, he graciously let us put together a case study breaking down his plan versus his actual performance file and for the most part TJ followed the plan perfectly.

Using a Target Normalized Power ® goal of 288 watts or .8 Intensity Factor ® the BBS model showed that a sub 4:30 was completely possible. TJ mentioned on the phone that he and his team had estimated that a 4:30 might require a power target closer to 300 watts, which would have changed the race strategy significantly. Knowing that he could average closer to 280 watts and still break 4:30 would give him more confidence that he could run well off the bike while still breaking the bike record.

A few things differ significantly from Mont Tremblant to Kona, the biggest being the heat and wind that will be experienced. As TJ is larger than many triathletes, he can output a lot of power but can also suffer a bit in the heat. For this reason we have taken his TSS ® data and adjusted it for a temperature and humidity differential. The goal of this was to allow TJ to push hard on the bike but still have some left in the tank for the run.

Il fait definitivement parti de ceux qui vont rendre le velo fou. Je pense que ce sera un Hawaii ou la tactique va etre dominee par la presence d'un nombre important d'Uberbiker qui nage dans le premier groupe. TJ Tollakson participant a cette dynamique tout comme Marino que je n'ai pas cite...

Je rejoins Joël pour le pronostic, ce qui laisse présager, que certains renards en embuscade seront à surveiller !

Staryko va mettre le feu absolu à vélo pour faire péter tout le monde ; dans le crazy train derrière lui ça va douter sévère : je m'accroche ou je reste calé
Inconsciemment pas mal de favoris vont rouler un poil au dessus : le marathon va être une vraie boucherie mais ça ne reviendra pas de l'arrière pour la gagne : ça reste un prono parmi d'autres sans prétention

Je vois bien un trio avec Marino, Kienle et Staryko poser en tête à T2 avec 5' et kienle pour la gagne avec un marathon sub 2h50. Par contre pas de Français dans le top 10.

boulet je pensais que le décalage horaire était +12h pour hawaii, du coup dans ma tête c'était départ ce soir pour nous, tu m'étonnes que je trouvais rien qui marchait... merci en tout cas je me fais ça demain donc
