MLV for a vibrating wall?

I live in a small apartment in New York City. The construction of the walls in this building are 1930s gypsum block which seems to have a low frequency resonant reaction to the air circulation equipment in a store below me.
I would like to install an MLV Barrier on Furring strips with an air gap approximately 1 inch from the wall. I don't want to put any other rigid material on top of the MLV because I'm afraid that any rigid material will simply transmit the resonant vibration again which could be picked up from the floor.
I can't measure the actual decibel level of the vibration - Maybe 30db near the wall. It's quite low but over extended periods of time and at night can be annoying.
Do you think that sealing the wall with MLV the way I described would make a difference? Or am I wasting my time?
