Macca in Noosa

From Inside Triathlon - Leon Griffin talking about 2005 Noosa Tri:
Halfway through the run, Macca was talking to me the whole time and I thought, "This is funny. What is this guy about? He was telling me how tired he was, he just did Ironman Hawaii, that I'd win easily, that he'd hand it to me. Then bang! Two kilometers from the end, he took off. I thought ‘Hey, what's going on?' He put one right on me. I'd never raced Chris. I told people and they said "Ah that's Macca. Welcome to racing with the big guys.' He's even telling me ‘We'll make it look good for the cameras, then you sprint at the finish. You're just a young guy...and the crowd will go wild.' Before I knew it, he'd pulled the wool over me eyes.
IT: Did you get mad?
LG: At the end of the day, I was just happy to be on the podium. I had never been on the podium in a big race. Afterward, he took me out and bought me breakfast, a big American breakfast. I thought you could tell I was a part timer. Everyone put Macca up on a pedestal. To me, to come in second, was like winning. I thought it was pretty cool to be hanging out and eating breakfast with him. The sport needs characters, and he is one, for sure.
