ITU imposes 2-year ban on Gaag (September 6, 2008 )
Yesterday The International Triathlon Union (ITU) announced it has imposed a two-year ban on Dmitriy Gaag, a triathlete from Kazakhstan, after committing an anti-doping rule violation in an out-of-competition doping control test in Des Moines, United States on June 20, 2008.

The ban begins June 20, 2008 and prohibits Gaag from entering or participating in any competition or activity authorized by ITU, its National Federations (NFs) and/or any other signatory to the World Anti-Doping Code.

Gaag's anti-doping rule violation was a result of an adverse analytical finding of recombinant erythropoietin (EPO), a substance on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List.

Following the notification of the adverse analytical finding of his "A" sample, Gaag exercised his right under the ITU Doping Rules to have the "B" sample opened. With the Olympic Games imminent, ITU opted to provisionally suspend Gaag, thereby forcing his removal from the men's triathlon competition start list.

The "B" sample was opened and analyzed using the ISO accredited methods. On August 19, the analytical result confirmed the "A" sample and presence of recombinant erythropoietin (EPO) in the urine. In accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code, ITU imposed the 2-year ban on Gaag after he waived his right to a hearing. All of his results from June 20 to present will be removed. His prize money from the Tiszaujvaros BG Triathlon World Cup was blocked and ITU administrative staff is currently contacting all affected athletes to make necessary prize money upgrades and adjustments.

Gaag has competed in two Olympic Games, finishing fourth in Sydney in 2000 and 25th in Athens in 2004. He won the world championships in 1999.

ITU is strongly committed to maintaining the integrity of the sport by ensuring athletes are competing on a level-playing field by abiding to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code to help keep triathlon clean. The ITU Anti-Doping Rules are written in compliance with the WADA Code. For a National Federation (NF) to be affiliated with ITU, it must abide by the WADA Code and ITU Rules.

Idem. (Je n'ai pas retrouvé de preuve officielle mais FanchM écrivait ici il y a 4 ans que Gaag avait eu deux contrôles positifs aux stéroïdes. S'il se rappelle des sources )

salut ben,on l'avait croisé à plusiseurs reprises en espagne (lanzarote ibiza )et il était très sympa et abordable.
Nous l'avions classé dans ta fameuse catégorie ,mais l'habit ne fait pas le moine

en tous les cas si une suspension de 2 ans (minimum)est prononcée ,c'est bien la fin de carrière pour fransisco
