* étonnamment, presque tout le pack homme coupa la seconde et dernière bouéeSo the swim was changed from the Gulf to the harbor for (needless) fear that there would be rough conditions in the Gulf (Oh no, not waves!!!). What resulted was a disorganized mess of a mens pro swim. Because there was a countdown, the huge (about 80) pro mens field continued to "drift" forward of the starting line. I could barely keep up with the moving line with sculling, and I had to do some stroking. We had to have been at least 50 meters past the starting line when the cannon went off - I had never seen anything like that. There wasn't any line-of-sight to the turn buoy, so it was very confusing out there. My good swim fitness was pretty much put to waste out there unfortunately. Amazingly, nearly the whole mens field CUT the second and final turn buoy* - I was one of the only ones who actually went around it. My correct navigation undoubtably cost me, but I still managed to come out near the back of the lead pack.
